PEOPLE RESOURCE PLANNING & FORECASTING

Not just a resource. Human.

PAIN. Traditional tools treat people like interchangeable parts. Tools that call your team "resources" miss the point about empowerment and miss the data you actually need to plan and deliver.

SOLUTION. Pie redefines resource management with a visual, human-centered approach that not only includes forecasting for availability and budgeting, but also empowers team members to take ownership of their work by engaging with planning, execution, and follow up.

Start with project roles and assignments.

Pain. Other tools make you plan by thinking about who will do the work. But that's the wrong starting point. Thinking "who" before thinking "what skills are needed" leads to weaker plans that are harder to reuse, harder to staff, and disconnected from the actual expertise a task requires.

Solution. Pie flips the approach. When building a recipe, each task is assigned a role such as Business Analyst or Project Manager, based on the skills the work demands. The person comes later. Once a project is launched, you assign people to roles and every task tied to that role is instantly allocated across the entire project. Planning becomes faster, smarter, and grounded in proven experience.

People load across projects.

Pain. When team members work across multiple projects at once, it's nearly impossible to see the full picture of their workload. Managers either over-assign or leave capacity on the shelf.

Solution. Pie's People Timeline view shows each person's active projects and assigned task workloads in one place. Color coding instantly shows what's done, what's late, and what's coming up. Expand a person to see their projects. Expand a project to see their assigned role. Click a bar to drill down directly into the project. (See below for work effort planning.)

Person’s workload in detail.

Pain. High-level workload views often hide the details that matter such as which active projects an individual is on now or assigned to future projects. Missing overlapping scheduling could also cause project issues.

Solution. From the People Timeline, you can expand a team member's workload bar to scheduled and unscheduled days alongside progress states at a glance. Identify overloaded work or missing days. Visually compare people against assigned roles for deeper resource planning answers, all with real-time data.

Planned work effort hours.

Pain. Knowing a task's start and end dates tells you almost nothing about how much of a person's day that task actually requires. Without work effort estimates, managers routinely over-allocate or under-allocate people across their days, leading to burnout, idle time, and inaccurate budget forecasting.

Solution. Pie lets project managers or team members assign estimated work effort hours to each task, drawn from past experience with similar work. The People Timeline instantly sums these hours per person per day, making it easy to spot overloads and gaps. And because every hour has a cost, accurate effort planning also means more precise budgeting and client billing.
